A veneer is a thin layer of material (usually porcelain or resin) bonded to the front of a tooth to improve its cosmetic appearance. Veneers have increased in popularity as they are a simple and effective way of improving the appearance of cracked, chipped, stained or crooked teeth.
Indirect veneers are manufactured in the dental laboratory and may require multiple visits. They are usually made of porcelain type materials and require tooth preparation to create space for the ceramic and bond layer.
Direct veneers are made in the dental surgery using composite resin and they also require some tooth preparation. They are more cost effective and are easy to repair but they do require polishing more often than indirect veneers.
Following a detailed examination of your mouth and a discussion of your medical and dental history, your dentist will explain all your treatment options in detail. If you decide to proceed with veneers, you will be provided with a treatment plan outlining your procedure and costs.
